Is it legal to cover Vocaloid songs, and if you need permission to do so, how would I got about it?

As the title says, I'm a bit concerned about legal issues, as I've heard you can get sued from certain people, or your channel can be taken down. >x<

Please inform me of legal and copyright issues, thanks in advance! ^w^

An example of the songs I would like to perform is Mozaik Role. Dx

of couse not. just make sure you give the credit to the original songwriter/singer/the song itself.

I'm not so sure on the legal ramifications myself, but seeing as there hasn't been a lockdown on vocaloid covers, it should be fine. Things that I have observed to be customary are 1) link back to the original in your upload and 2) make a piapro to account and leave a message on the producer's upload of the instrumental on piapro thanking him or her for the use of the song.

This all assumes that you have an okay enough grasp of Japanese or an interpreter friend to help you copy and paste thank you messages that everyone else also leaves. If you plan on staying strictly within the Youtaite scene, I'm not quite sure what they do, but most I've seen at leads link back to the original. I know that Rockleetist has had explicit permission from several producers to cover songs, but her high profile indicates that this may not be the norm. Another reliable piece of information has told me that it is not necessary to directly contact the producer via email or twitter, however, they would probably appreciate it.
