People says my voice won't fit all the songs I do

I already know I mostly shouldn't care about that kind of comments ( as they don't make me better, neither help me becoming better ), but it's somehow wearing me off. The vocal technique I'm using is the one I feel most natural for me, so I mostly use my chest voice, and it is quite "full". I never took singing lessons, neither was in a chorus of any type. Anyway, lots of people (well, actually not a real lot, just a bunch, who say it everytime) says my voice isn't fitted for all songs I do (and I do all songs, from rock to pop to rap, usually). The last one said my voice felt "melodramatic which doesn't fit".

Every person's voice suits certain songs more and other songs less. Aside from your style, there are also songs that sound better or worse depending on your ability. A lot of the time, utaite are praised for their excellent "song picking skills" so, although it is fine to sing whatever song makes you happy, it is a real fact that there will always be some songs that suit your voice than others. You don't have to sing to please others, but that doesn't mean your voice will fit every single song. That's just how it is.

If you are looking for a real solution here, you can limit your song choices like how Rairu does chiefly ballads because they suit his voice extremely well, or you can try to develop a multitude of styles like 96neko so that whatever the style of voice sounds best with the song, you can sing comfortably, or do what Yuudai has done and just go with your own flow and become that person who makes amazing covers with a twist, where the style doesn't match the stereotypical way of singing the song. That kind of "gap appeal" can be very strong, too.

Thank Since I pretty much am not good in singing, I ended up doing it because I like singing and it do let me spit out what I keep inside and things like that. Though I still hate having peoples saying "I shouldn't sing that song" because of my voice. I am curious to know what kind of voice I have, though. As I don't study singing neither choral, I ended up classifying myself as Dramatic Baritone or Heroic Tenor or something similar (from the point of view of lyrical singing). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l6SA-kW64w ( present for a Toaruverse fan ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcnqX_lp1XY ( present for a girl who loved Luka ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADmiE_ZwCIM ( blocked just in USA, it seems )

You can talk to (and sing for) chorus or music teachers and find out what your range is :)

I know this is not going to be helpful at all (LOL)

But...

"I already know I mostly shouldn't care about that kind of comments ( as they don't make me better, neither help me becoming better )"

I feel like, you shouldn't ignore these kind of comments. I believe they're not meant to be troll/offensive comments, and it *might* be true, *if* a lot of people say the same thing to you.

nah, never ignored any kind of comments. ( I simply don't know where to find a good music teacher who would have time for me ) I must say I use to ignore compliments from people I know, since they could be under the obligations to not hurt me, as so I usually put lots of weight in negative comments, though I don't receive many of them.
