I was wondering if it's legal to cover on Niconico without asking the producer. Since in the description of Utaite covers alot of the time it says "I got permission to cover said song from said producer"
So can you cover on niconico without asking the song producer? Because how would you do that anyways?
I've seen a lot of utattemita in my life, and I have never seen a video claim such a thing unless it was a non-vocaloid song, and even those rarely have a declaration like that.
You may be encountering a common mistranslation of the humble form of "to sing", which can also mean "was allowed to sing", but other than that, I have no idea what you're talking about.
Covers of songs with publicly available instrumental tracks are absolutely legal, and some more-well-known producers such as HoneyWorks even have notices on their communities in reaction to some well-meaning utaite: "You need not ask permission to cover our songs."
Are you sure you've been reading the descriptions properly? I'm still fairly new the whole utaite thing but i've already seen dozens of videos that said they got permission to sing. I don't really have anything to contribute in terms of answering the question because I was also wondering the same thing but I'm just curious about why you've never seen it before.
Raspomme can read Japanese so I'm quite sure she's been reading them properly.
I have also never seen the "I got permission [...]" usually it's "I was allowed to sing [...]" in the sense Raspomme mentioned. The first time I've even heard of asking for permission is when you mentioned it o.o
You don't happen to be Google Translating those descriptions have you?...Or if you're using the English version of NND it might be a translation error since those are user submitted.
I don't really know about this, but I gess it's okay to cover song for them as long as they write something like : "the original song is by ......, I don't own the original song, I just covered over" no ?
For one thing some producers don't like having their songs covered. It is only if the producer makes available the instrumentals for the song that it can be covered, otherwise it is not allowed.
Like for example, you can't make instrumentals by removing the vocals and singing over it.
Also just be warned that using instrumentals from CDs you do not own is illegal.
However I should mention, making your own instumentals is fine if you so choose
Oh, okay! Thank you people that replied, it makes alot more sense now! ^^
Is there a page of producers that don't want their songs covered? That could be helpful :) I think Deco*27 don't want covers of some songs, but I thinks it's just for some of them.
So, meaning to say that VOCALOID songs are free to cover??
Did you even read what everyone wrote? In particular Starikun's last reply answers your question perfectly...
i still dont really quite understand so can u do covers on vocaloid? i dont really understand
Short answer: If there are off vocals on Piapro, then yes.
Long answer: Check out the Instrumentals, Copyright & Credits section utaite.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:BLUEBIRD/Beginning_Singers_Masterpost
