How badly is singing in Japanese frowned upon when you don't know the language at all? I'm looking into becoming a youtaite for fun, and was talking with some friends what songs to do and whether to do English covers or original versions. Though there are some really good English lyrics for songs out there, I think some songs I might want do just sound better in Japanese. When I said I would probably try making a Japanese cover of those though, they told me if there's one thing I shouldn't do, it's that.
Now although I think my pronounciation is rather decent, I'm sure it still sounds horrible to a native speaker. However, I've sung songs in languages I didn't know in real life before (that wasn't Japanese though) and those same friends heard those, and they never found it weird.
I always thought a lot of people who made Japanese covers online didn't know Japanese either, am I wrong about that?
