A sample of a cover song by Horohoro Dori
Overdose, composed by natori

Horohoro Dori's cover of Lovesong ni Shukuhaiwo (NishizawasanP)

Horohoro Dori (ホロホロ鳥; lit. Guinea Fowl) is an utaite who is known for often playing an acoustic guitar when singing on namahousou. He frequently hosts continuous 30 minute lives on niconico, where he points his camera towards his guitar or keyboard and sings. During his livestreams, he usually drinks a can of beer, giving a toast to his audience.

He has a soft and relaxed voice which is suitable for his laid-back and calm singing style, though his covers consist of upbeat pop songs with few ballads. It could also be described as mid-ranged and boyish, able to hold out a note with good vibrato (e.g. Lovesong ni Shukuhaiwo, Million Dollar Dreamers, and Shuuen no Solitude.) Occasionally, he would cover acoustic covers of certain songs, for example Lemon, Eine Kleine, and Dream Lantern from the anime Your Name. Overall, his talent is uplifting, yet underrated.

"Renai Saiban" with more than 46k views as of November 16, 2015 is his most popular cover.

Horohoro Dori is a semi-active Twitter user, while he doesn't post often, he likes to greet his followers a 'Good Morning,' every day. And whenever a new week starts, he usually tweets "It's Monday!" In various different ways, followed by a barrage of exclamation points. He uses the site to promote his recent covers, collaborations, and what he has eaten for the day. Sometimes he shares hilarious anecdotes about how his life is going.[4]

His mascot is a blue, rotund bird that holds a guitar. He also names all of his covers with "鳥ごときが" (lit. "just a bird") to describe himself. While he does have a human avatar of himself, it is quite funny when he simply opts to use the bird in his place.[5]

Trivia[]

  • He lives in Tokyo.[2]
  • He can make cakes. He even hosted a nico live in which he baked his own birthday cake.[6]
  • He has at least 10 guitars.[citation needed]
  • His favorite food is miso soup.[7]
  • His color is light blue for the BURST collaboration [8]
  • When Horohoro Dori lived in Gifu Prefecture, he ranted about how Gifu Prefecture has the second and third best fireworks display for the fireworks festival. Only to be beaten by Nagano Prefecture.[9]
  • In his blog, he talks about how much of a hopeless romantic he was. He wanted to buy a yukata to wear to the fireworks festival, but stopped himself because he doesn’t have a date. He then equated buying a yukata before getting a girlfriend to buying Monster Hunter but having no console to play it with.[9]
  • He explained that he broadcasted a few namahousou from his kitchen because the floor plan in his home left him with no choice.[10]
  • When he attended a fan meet-up back in 2012, he accidentally picked up the wrong nametag and it read “Pikpik” instead of “Horohorodori.” And because he was deathly embarrassed with both introducing himself as Horohorodori and picking up the wrong nametag, he kept it for the rest of the meet-up.[11]
