Mafumafu's Kyukurarin Cover

Mafumafu (まふまふ) is a popular male utaite well-known for his soft, yet upbeat middle-high ranged voice who started in December 2010 [3]. Mafumafu is recognized for incorporating various vocal effects into his covers and for his ability to effortlessly reach high notes, sometimes in extremely high octaves, without strain or loss of power. His wide vocal range allows him to produce a convincing feminine voice, as demonstrated in his cover of "Matryoshka"Nnd32, which has over 3 million views.

He often utilizes his range by shifting into higher or lower octaves to match a song's tone. Although he is not a full-time ryouseirui,he occasionally sings in a feminine voice. The first time he officially sang as a female character was in Last Note.'s unique duet album "Finale." In his regular and lower voice, Mafumafu can sound relaxing and soothing. His most popular cover to date is "Hated by Life Itself" Nnd32Yt, which surpassed 100 million views on YouTube on May 26, 2021, and by August 2024, it has surpassed 150 million views.[4]

Initially, Mafumafu sang in a lower, deeper voice, but as he gained experience, his vocal range expanded, and he now sings in a higher, energetic tone. His songs are often tagged as "kakuseirui" (覚声類), meaning "energizing voice." While he typically doesn't forget lyrics, when he does, he will mumble or make cute noises until he remembers.

Mafumafu frequently collaborates with Akatin, Amatsuki, un:c, and most frequently with Soraru. Together, Mafumafu and Soraru form the duo unit After the Rain (ATR) and host the Hikikomoranai Radio (ひきこもらないラジオ) together, in which the two talk about various subjects and attempt to encourage each other to go outside. They are close friends as well; Mafumafu has once posted on his blog that Soraru helped him get through a bad experience in the past and that he is very grateful to have Soraru in his life.

Although he has done a national tour with Soraru for their unit, Mafumafu has not held any due to personal reasons and health conditions. However, by November 17, 2016, Mafumafu announced in a Twitcast[5] that he would hold a solo live for three days next year, 2017, on the following dates; January 18 (Zepp DiverCity, Tokyo), 22 (Zepp Namba, Osaka), and 28 (Zepp Nagoya, Nagoya). The title of Mafumafu's solo tour is titled, Hikikomori demo LIVE ga Shitai (ひきこもりでもLIVEがしたい!, I'm a Shut-In but I Want to Hold Concerts) or Hikirai (ひきライ), an abbreviated form of Mafumafu's live, derived from the DVD he sold in NatsuComi that featured him, Soraru, Amatsuki, Luz, and ZimuinG.

Because of the number of entries in the lottery for the tickets of his first live, he announced his final live in Makuhari Messe Hall in Chiba on February 5, 2016.

According to Mafumafu in his Twitcast, he would only hold a solo live once because he wanted to do other things he has not done while still young. However, this proved to be a short-lived statement, as he has since gone on to host more HikkiLives annually and appears in After the Rain concerts.

After the Rain also performed a concert from August 9 to August 10th, 2017 in Nippon Budokan named "AtR -Clockwise / Anti-Clockwise."

Although the majority of his work is done under the name "Mafumafu", he has stated in a Twitcast [6] where he also occasionally produces music under other names and have asked for his fans not to talk about or share his outside work if they find it. Fans are also advised not to seek out or reveal any personal information he has not explicitly shared.

Beyond singing, Mafumafu is a mixer and often mixes songs for other utaite. He started as a Vocaloid producer and frequently composes songs. For more information on his work as a producer, please visit his article here on the VOCALOID wiki.

In November 2014, Mafumafu created his YouTube channel as a response to the reprints there, which back then had varying video qualities. He also created his bilibili channel in November 2018, 4 years later, for the same reason. On May 30, 2021. Mafumafu hit 3 million subscribers on YouTube.[7][8]

On August 10, 2020, Mafumafu debuted his Live2D avatar, signifying him as a Virtual YouTuber.[9] Since then, he has been streaming on his main channel, although stream archives often go unlisted after a while. [10] He also streams on Twitcast using his virtual avatar.
