A sample of a cover song by Otane.
"Sajou no Yumekui Shoujo", composed by Hachi

Otane (ヲタ姐) is an utaite known for her high, airy voice, with a unique tinkly sort of tone. She has a somewhat large range, and is capable of both belting out powerful vocals and soft, whispery notes. Her voice is often described as "cute" or "pretty"; however, she is also notable for being one of the few female utaite capable of guttural death growls and screamo without the aid of mixing.

She has covered several metal songs (most notably a cover of "Gaichuu") which often leads to surprise and confusion for people who have only heard covers sung in her normal voice. Because of this, she is sometimes referred to as a ryouseirui of darkness (闇の両声類); while she is not a trap in the usual sense of the word, her growls sometimes cause fans to confuse her for the opposite gender.

Her most popular solo cover is "Wonderland to Hitsuji no Uta", which currently has 320K views and 13K mylists. Her first cover was "Ikeza Gogo Kuji Don't Be Late" from Macross Frontier, which currently has 8K views, and her first hit cover was "Megurihime Buyoukyoku", which currently has 94K views and 2K mylists.

Trivia

  • Her name is derived from the fact that she is an older sister (or ane/姐) and her belief that she is a ヲタクな女子, or otaku lady.[1] She jokingly calls herself a OL (which usually stands for office lady) because of this, despite the fact that she is still in university.[2]
  • Marty Friedman of Megadeth fame specifically thought her cover of "Gaichuu" was "really good", and favorably compared her to Arika Takarano of Ali Project. He went on to describe her death growls as being "fantastic" and her normal singing voice as "unbelievably sweet and full of personality".[3]
  • Her younger sister Woimo is also an utaite.
  • She is capable of communicating in English, as stated on her Twitter.
  • She was born in Hyogo Prefecture and currently lives in Tokyo.[4]
  • Her favorite food is ramen.
  • She is sometimes confused with Wotamin, as they are both female utaite with ヲタ at the beginning of their names.
